What it really means
Supermarket and shop staff usually greet you with "You alright?" or "Any plans for the weekend?" This is friendly ritual, not nosiness — a short cheerful answer is all that's needed. Ignoring the greeting or not saying "thanks" at the end comes across as cold. You're not expected to have a real conversation.
Chinese explanation
超市和商店店员通常会用"You alright?"或"周末有什么安排？"来招呼你。这是友好的例行寒暄，不是打探——轻松地简短回应即可。无视问候或最后不说"thanks"会显得冷漠。不需要真的展开聊天。
