Most UK universities record lectures automatically and post them to the VLE — a genuine gift for anyone processing rapid academic English, since you can rewatch dense sections at will and check what you actually heard. Use it as a second pass, not a substitute: live attendance keeps you honest, catches the unrecorded asides and Q&A, connects you to classmates, and — for international students — feeds the engagement monitoring universities are required to run for visa sponsorship.
The failure mode is well documented: 'I'll watch it later' compounds into a revision-week backlog of forty unwatched hours, which is not studying but archaeology. Practical notes: seminars and labs are rarely recorded (missing them means missing them), recordings occasionally fail so notes still matter, and playback at higher speed with pauses is the efficient revision mode most students settle on.
