January's 'Veganuary' campaign has pushed chains to launch vegan versions of their signature items, many of which stay year-round.
Useful phrases and habits: 'is this vegan?' gets a straight answer, 'can you make it without the cheese?' is routine, and chefs in Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern restaurants adapt dishes readily — cuisines with deep vegetable traditions are the reliable good time. Declare requirements when booking or when invited to someone's home (at invitation time, never at the table), and no British host will find it strange.
