What it really means
After a gift, a stay at someone's home, or a job interview or wedding, a short thank-you card or message is a warm British custom. It doesn't need to be long — a couple of sincere lines is plenty. Children are often taught to send them after birthdays and Christmas.

收到礼物、在别人家留宿、参加完求职面试或婚礼后，寄一张简短的感谢卡或发条感谢消息，是英国温暖的习俗。不必长——真诚的两三句就够了。小孩子常被教导在生日和圣诞后寄感谢卡。
