What it really means
In many British workplaces, colleagues take turns making tea for the whole team — a "tea round". If you accept teas but never make a round, people notice and it becomes a quiet joke at your expense. Joining the rota, even clumsily, is an easy way to belong. Remembering orders earns bonus points.
