Bringing flowers as a gift

Neutral Polite

What it really means

Flowers are a safe, welcome gift when visiting someone's home, especially for a host or to say thank you. There's little superstition to worry about in the UK, unlike some cultures. A bunch from a supermarket is perfectly acceptable; you don't need anything fancy.

Example conversation

A: I'm going to a friend's for dinner — what should I bring? B: Flowers or a bottle of wine are always safe.

What you could say back

“I'll pick up some flowers on the way.”
