Bins and recycling
Neutral Neutral
What it really means
Every council has its own bin system: different coloured bins for general waste, recycling and sometimes food or garden waste, each collected on set days. Putting bins out the night before collection and bringing them back in is a real neighbourhood norm — bins left out for days annoy neighbours. Your council website has the collection calendar.
Example conversation
A: Which bin does pizza boxes go in? And when do bins go out?
B: Clean cardboard goes in the blue one. Collection's Tuesday, so we put them out Monday night.
