All of them are legally private hire: the app booking is your pre-booking, the driver is licensed and insured, and the ritual checks apply — match the number plate and driver photo before getting in, and confirm they know your name (ask 'who are you here for?' rather than offering yours).
Stations and airports have designated app pickup points — follow the app's walking directions rather than fighting the taxi rank. Surge pricing spikes at closing time and in rain; a ten-minute wait or a short walk from the venue often halves the fare. And the street rule never bends: anyone approaching you claiming to be 'your Uber' without the app confirming it is not your Uber.
