What it really means
The question you get when ordering steak: rare (red inside), medium-rare, medium, medium-well, or well done (fully cooked). "Medium" is the safest answer if you are unsure. Burgers are normally served fully cooked.

点牛排时会被问熟度：rare（一分/带血）、medium-rare（三分）、medium（五分）、medium-well（七分）、well done（全熟）。拿不准就点"medium"最稳妥。汉堡一般默认全熟。
